New Technology: The Periodontal Microscope

Here at Mountain Loop Dental, we’re excited about some new technology we’ve introduced! The Perioscope (short for the periodontal microscope) is an advanced microfiber attached to a monitor that allows hygienists to see and remove what is causing the gum infection at its source. Our hygienists then went through extensive training to master the protocols and ensure a comfortable atmosphere for our patients.
The periodontal microscope is used to treat advanced gum disease that would otherwise need to be referred to a specialist for surgical treatment. It is a non-invasive treatment that causes minimal soreness, with impressive results to resolve infections that would otherwise lead to tooth loss.
At our office, we believe that addressing gum disease is the ‘low-hanging fruit’ of preventing heart disease and Alzheimer’s. Inflammation, caused by gum disease, thickens the walls in your arteries and allows plaques to grow within them, later leading to a heart attack or stroke. If you’re interested in learning more on this subject, check out the book ‘Healthy Heart, Healthy Brain’ or ask us during your visit.
If someone in your family hasn’t had their gum health checked recently, they very likely have some form of this condition, which is often easily treatable if caught early.
When allowed to advance to a critical level, gum disease can still be treated and stabilized with the help of technology, such as the Perioscope.
